Our product development is supported by staffs with many years of professional experience. SELZER develops and evaluates its own design solutions for desired functions. We use common processes such as 3D modelling (with Catia or Creo software), stress analysis (with Ansys software) and statistical tolerance analysis (with Enventive software). Naturally, we use the FMEA design method for risk analysis. We use the widespread APIS software. We produce plastic models with out own 3D printer to quickly get a “tactile” feel of our ideas. The product development matches the approach of our customers, so that the results can be implemented without modifications. We produce prototypes in our own prototype shop and test them in our own testing department to validate the development process.

We document development results in the form of technical drawings, calculation reports and test reports. When inquiring about components, we are happy to propose alternatives based on existing drawings and thus provide added value for all involved. In addition to the numerous customer projects we intensively research lightweight construction for CO2 reduction and product cost optimization.


We develop and manufacture our production-quality prototypes in our own prototyping workshop. It combines a wide variety of machining processes under one roof: EDM wire eroding, HCS milling, CNC turning, laser cutting, water jet cutting, stamping, bending or drawing. Smaller prototyping tools and devices are produced by the jigs and fixtures construction workshop as needed. Prototypes are documented according to customer specifications and applicable standards. Life tests can be performed on pulsating fatigue-test machines, cold chambers, environmental test chambers, and load test stands. We use 3-D measuring machines, profile projectors, scanners and all common measurement methods for the measurement of parts and document such. The testing and optimization of welding methods (MAG / TIG / AC-DC / Sharc / robot welding with rotary tables) is performed under production conditions.

Project management

Our project management supports each project from the receipt of an order to the start of the series production. Experienced project managers ensure the coordination of interdisciplinary and cross-location project teams for new projects. Projects are carried out according to the SELZER Product Evolution Management System (PEMS), which meets known automotive standards such as AIAG, VDA, or ISO TS 16949.

A project starts upon the receipt of an order in product development (design). The design is verified using prototypes, which are produced in the in-house prototyping workshop. These serve as first demonstration models, but are also used for testing the series production, which is performed in our test department with product-specific testing facilities. Process testing for series processes is performed as part of series validation at the same time. The procurement of operating resources for series production begins after the completion of the prototyping phase. The required tools mainly com from our own tool making shop. The sampling of parts follows customer specifications. The project is handed over to the production department after the final acceptance of the operating resources.
